Mahama Congratulates new UK PM
Former President John Dramani Mahama has conveyed his congratulatory message to the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer and his party for their momentous and resounding victory over the Conservatives.
The UK went to the polls on Thursday, July 4, 2024, and the Labour Party swept to victory, ousting the Conservative Party, which had been in power for 14 years and lost 250 seats in Parliament.
In a Facebook post, Mr Mahama who is seeking to return to power with his National Democratic Congress (NDC) congratulated Starmer and his party.
“Congratulations to PM Keir Starmer and the UK Labour Party on their landslide victory in the British elections. The people have spoken, and I look forward to a strong partnership between our two countries.”
He is hoping to replicate the same victory in Ghana in the 2024 General Elections.
“Like the UK, Ghana will also have elections soon, and I hope for a positive outcome for my party and our continued good relations with Labour.”
In a tweet on X, the new PM promised change and has set out to appoint his cabinet ministers.
“My government will serve you. Politics can be a force for good. The work of change begins today.”
In his last address at No.10 Downing Street, PM Rishi Sunak, apologized to the country for their underperformance and took responsibility for the loss.
He also resigned as the Leader of the Conservatives.
