Mahama Commiserates With Family Of Dead AAMUSTED “Fetish Priest”
Former President and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has commiserated with the family of Prosper Owusu, a student of the Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (AAMUSTED) who died last week after getting burnt.
The third-year student- also the chief priest of the Opoku Ware II Hall of the school- was caught up in a fire accident while leading traditional rites of the hall on August 25, 2023.
Reports say Owusu sustained life-threatening injuries and was admitted to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) where he subsequently died on September 1.
In reaction, Mahama said, “It is always a tragedy to lose a young, promising life. We mourn his unfortunate death.”
“My condolences to the family and the university community,” he said.
He also commended the University for instituting measures to forestall future occurrences.
“I commend the university authorities for taking swift action and cautioning our young students to avoid engaging in risky activities that can lead to tragic outcomes such as this.”
Meanwhile, the Management of AAMUSTED said investigation into the death is underway.
“The issues surrounding the incident at the Hall are being investigated. Management will give further updates,” a press statement released over the weekend by the school said.
