Leeds Part Ways With Head Coach After Relegation
Leed United have announced the departure of head coach Sam Allardyce following “painful” relegation to the Championship.
In a statement on June 2, the Club said Sam’s departure was based on mutual agreement.
Sam had the opportunity to supervise just four games during his tenure which began after succeeding Javi Gracia on 3 May.
He lost three and drew one of his matches in charge.
The Club in its statement said, “Leeds United and Sam Allardyce can confirm that both parties have mutually agreed for Sam’s spell at the club to end following the completion of the 2022/23 season.”
Sam sees his time at Leeds as an “honour”.
“I have really enjoyed working with the staff and players at the club and I would like to thank Angus Kinnear for the opportunity. I’d also like to highlight the outstanding work of Karl Robinson and Robbie Keane who have worked tirelessly over the past few weeks,” he said.
Leeds United CEO Angus Kinnear added, “We thank Sam for being brave enough to step in and do all he could to save us. Sadly, it was not to be, but Sam, Karl and Robbie did everything they could to lift the mood at Thorp Arch and Elland Road and for that, we are all extremely grateful.”
Leeds have played in the Premier League for three seasons but got relegated after the 2022/2023 season, during which they won 7 of 38 matches, drew 10 and lost 21. They scored 48 goals and conceded 78.
The club released a statement on May 28 and apologised to their fans for their unimpressive performance.
“Relegation is painful, and we apologise to our fanbase that the performances this season have not seen the club consolidate our status as we had all hoped.”
