Kwahumanhene Hasn’t Been Destooled

The Kwahu Traditional Council has refuted speculations suggesting its Paramount Chief, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong Il has been destooled.

It follows the circulation of video footage depicting what was claimed as processes for his destoolment.

In a statement, the Council indicated that the said video is false and misleading.

“The dissemination of this misleading video on social media and selected WhatsApp group pages, particularly among known politicians, constitutes an attack on the rich heritage and traditions of Kwahu.”

It emphasized that no formal charges or petitions have been brought against the Kwahuhene to call for his destoolment.

Additionally, it noted that the traditional leader has not been found liable for any misconduct related to his role as Chairman of the Board of the Agricultural Development Bank.

“The demand for his resignation by the Banking Supervision Division of the Bank of Ghana came without prior opportunity for the Kwahuhene to respond to the allegations, which raises concerns about due process. In light of these events, the Kwahuhene chose to step aside to allow for an appropriate resolution of the matter.”

It thereby urged subjects to disregard the disinformation.
“We urge the good people of Kwahu and subjects of the Esono Gymah Mampong Agyei Stool to remain calm and steadfast in support of the Paramountcy.”

Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, resigned from the position of Board Chair of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) earlier this month after a directive by the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

He is being accused by one Collins Darkwa, a businessman, of extorting a significant amount of money from him in exchange for a GH₵12 million loan.

In a petition to the Office of the President, the businessman explained how the former Board Chairman demanded GH₵50,000 upfront and further amounts from him for the approval of GH₵12 million and appealed to the Presidency to help him recover a total amount of GH₵2,408,000 from the Board Chairman, Channel 1 News reports.
