Kurt Okraku Points Out the Value of Serving on CAF’s Executive Committee

The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and West Africa Football Union (WAFU) has emphasised the significance of his advancement in football management.
Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku was appointed as the second Vice-President of the Confederation of Africa Football’s Executive Committee, with Fouzi Lekjaa of Morocco serving as the first Vice-President.
The appointment of the association’s president was confirmed on Saturday, April 26, 2025, bringing him closer to celebrating his annual milestone success in football administration.
The president explained his expanding responsibilities at the Confederation of Africa Football in an exclusive interview with Michael Kofi, host of Metro Sports, on Wednesday.
He described his promotion to continental executive as both challenging and fulfilling.
“Serving at the highest level of football on the African continent has been an eye-opener. There’s a lot to learn, but most importantly, there’s a lot for me to offer the African game,” Kurt said.
Kurt was frequently observed as a close aide to Dr. Patrice Motsepe, the president of CAF, during the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), and his leadership was credited with reviving faith in African football.
Mr. Okraku explained, “At the time Dr. Motsepe took over, the image of the sport had been tainted. One of his key focuses has been to bring in the needed finance, raise the level of our competitions and make them more attractive.”
Mr. Okraku, the head of WAFU Zone B, mentioned the recent AFCON’s commercial expansion and the notable increase in prize money.
“The AFCON prize money is now in excess of $10 million. Someone could think this is absurd. Football has indeed been rejuvenated, as evidenced by the recent prize money from the last three competitions in Morocco, Ivory Coast, and Cameroon.”
