Krobea Asante Technical Riot: 39 Students Remanded
The Asokore-Mampong District court has remanded 39 accused persons in the disturbances that rocked Krobea Asante Technical and Vocational School on Sunday.
The court presided over by Mr Samuel Buabin Quansah ordered the accused persons to be remanded to pave the way for police investigations.
40 students were arrested following a demonstration by some students of the school on January 22 which led to the destruction of some properties in the school.
Following a police screening, one person was exonerated while the remaining 39 were arraigned in court on Tuesday, January 24.
They have been charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, unlawful entry, causing damage and stealing.
They will reappear in court on February 2, 2023.
Following the disturbances, students of the school have been sent home.
A report by JoyNews said Mahindra and an Isuzu pickup truck, a Nissan Patrol, a school bus, Toyota Vitz, and a saloon car were destroyed during the riot.
The school’s storehouse was also invaded.
It is reported that the protest was necessitated by the poor results of their predecessors in their final examination, however, the district Education Director, William Brako Agyapong, said that’s just speculation.
A five-member committee has been set up to investigate the cause of the riot.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, has asked the police to declare the school prefect and other student leaders of Krobea Asante Technical and Vocational Institute wanted if they fail to avail themselves for investigations into the riot.
