Korle Klottey Assembly Bans Burial at Osu Cemetery

The Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly has announced a two-month ban on burials at the Osu Cemetery.

It follows confirmation of exhumation at the site, the MCE Alfred Ato Allotey-Gaisie told the media.

“We heard in the news that this activity of exhuming or digging the same place to burry  so we sent our task force to go have a look and really these activities were going on but normally when we give permits we don’t go there to look because we have people working there, we assumed that there are spaces they are preparing.”

According to him, the ban is to make way for an audit and overhaul of the cemetery’s management system.

“We are trying to ensure that we don’t go back to burry our dead on another dead body.”

The ban excludes people already issued permits as well as indigenes and churches within the Municipality, the Assembly said.

“Between now and next two months, we will look for places for those with permits. Apart from that we put a hold on burial but then, we are looking at the indigenes and the churches. We will look for opportunities for them anytime they want to burry.”
