Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Waives Hernia Surgical Fees For Kumasi Prison Inmates

The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital has waived surgical fees for inmates of Kumasi Central Prison to ease the financial burden of essential medical procedures, particularly hernia surgeries.

The development follows a working visit by the Officer in Charge of the Kumasi Central Prison Medical Unit, Superintendent Stephen Kumah, to the Deputy Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Yaw Opare Larbi, on Tuesday.

During the meeting, Superintendent Kumah conveyed a request from DDP Mwinyelle seeking the hospital’s support in reducing the cost of surgical treatments for inmates.

In response, Dr Larbi assured the prison of the hospital’s commitment to providing regular healthcare services for both inmates and prison officers.

The two institutions also explored opportunities for collaboration in capacity building through joint training programmes and specialised workshops for medical officers stationed at the prison health facility.

Superintendent Kumah expressed appreciation for the hospital’s support, noting that the waiver of surgical fees and the proposed training initiatives would significantly improve inmate welfare and strengthen healthcare delivery at the prison.
