KNUST Denies Dead Agribusiness Student was High on Marijuana at Time of Fall

The Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has denied claims that the second year Agribusiness student fell to death while smoking Marijuana.

It denied confirming that claim to the media outlets in a statement.

“The University has not made any pronouncement regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident beyond its official holding statement issued earlier.”

“Management therefore disassociates itself from the said publication and urges the media and the public to disregard the report, as it does not emanate from the University and remains unverified.”

It noted that investigations into the incident are ongoing, and no conclusions have been reached at this stage.

The university further urged media organisations to exercise professionalism, ethical responsibility, and restraint in reporting on sensitive matters, particularly those involving the loss of life, pending the outcome of official investigations.

“The University remains committed to transparency and will communicate accurate information to the public as soon as investigations are concluded,” it assured.

Incident
In a statement on Monday, the university said the unfortunate incident happened on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at an off-campus hostel in Ayeduase.

The victim was identified as Mr Ransford Amankwah Asomani, a second-year student of the BSc Agribusiness Management programme.

According to preliminary reports, he fell from the second floor of the hostel and was immediately rushed to the KNUST Hospital by his colleagues, with support from the KNUST District Police Patrol Team.

He was, however, pronounced dead on arrival.
