Ken Attafuah Leaves NIA Job

The Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority (NIA), Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah has proceeded on retirement after the extension of his contract twice by the President.

His exit was announced by the Authority in a Facebook post on November 13, 2024.

“The Management and entire Staff of NIA thank you and wish you well in the next phase of your life. You are undoubtedly the Best Many to have led the NIA these past seven years.”

It also hailed his diligence, integrity, transparency, extraordinary eloquence and dedication to the Authority.

His exit follows demands by the NIA Division of the Public Services Workers Union, Trades Union Congress (TUC) Ghana for his removal on July 1, 2024.

A part of the petition to President Akufo-Addo read, “The staff and union’s decision to petition your high office for the removal of Professor Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah is grounded on unfair labour practices contrary to the labour laws and Human Resource Manual and Policy Framework for Ghana Public Services, violations of SSNIT law, poor corporate governance structure, selective and administrative injustice in the recruitment, placement and promotion of staff, and lack of innovative ideas to manage the administration of the authority.”

“His staff have absolutely lost trust in his administration and can no longer work with him in confidence. These, coupled with infractions in the labour laws and SSNIT Acts, are enough justifications for his immediate removal from office without further delays.”

Prof Attafuah was appointed to the role in 2017. He was given a two-year contract to continue his role when he was due for retirement in 2019.

In 2021, the President extended his appointment by an additional two years.
