Ken Agyapong Won’t Break Away from NPP- Spokesperson

The spokesperson of Kennedy Agyapong, an unsuccessful Presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has denied claims that he has seceded from the party.

According to Kwasi Kwarteng, the former lawmaker has no intention of contesting the 2028 Presidential elections of Ghana.

“Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong has not and will not break away from the New Patriotic Party (NPP: Development in Freedom),” he wrote in a Facebook post on Monday.

It comes after some supporters of Ken announced the establishment of what they call “The Base” as the first step to forming a political party to challenge the NPP and ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the next election.

Ken lost the Presidential primary of the NPP to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who polled 110,643, representing 56.48 per cent of the total valid votes cast.

The former Assin Central Member of Parliament placed second with 46,554 votes, representing 23.76 per cent.

Other aspirants included former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, who obtained 1,999 votes, representing 1.02 per cent; former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, who polled 402 votes, accounting for 0.21 per cent and former Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr Bryan Acheampong, who secured 36,303 votes, equivalent to 18.53 per cent.
