Kamaldeen, Nuamah, Issahaku Named Among U-23 AFCON Squad

Coach Ibrahim Tanko has named Kamaldeen Sulemana, Ernest Nuamah and Fatawu Issahaku among Ghana’s squad for the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco later this month.

He named 29 players for the tournament on Thursday, June 8.

15 of the players were selected from Ghana Premier League (GPL) clubs and tier clubs.

They include Danlad Ibrahim, Aziz Daari, Aaron Essel, David Oppong, Haffiz Ibrahim, Samuel Ashie Quaye, Emmanuel Adjei, Emmanuel Appau, Emmanuel Esso, Dominic Nsobila, Samari Abass, Sylvester Simba,Godfred Wakii, Augustine Randolph and Ebenezer Addae.

The remaining 14 were sorted from foreign clubs.

They are Fatawu Issahaku, Ernest Nuamah, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, Jordan Amissah, Zubairu Ibrahim, Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer, Emmanuel Essiam, Nathaniel Agyei, Edmund Arko Mensah, Terry Yegbe, Emmanuel Yeboah, Kamaldeen Sulemana, Salim Adam and Kwadwo Poku Mahala.

Some of the players began camping and training on May 23 and will leave Ghana for Morocco on June 12.

Kamaldeen Sulemana and Ransford-Yeboah Koniigsdoffer will join the Black Meteors on June 18, 2023, after Black Stars’ upcoming AFCON qualifier against Madagascar, a statement announcing the squad said.

Ghana is in Group A with hosts Morocco, Guinea and Congo in the tournament which will take place between June 24 and July 8, 2023.

The Black Meteors’ first game will be against Congo on June 25, before taking on Morocco and Guinea on June 27 and June 30, respectively.

Ahead of their games, the GFA says they will engage in a series of friendlies.
