Joseph Paintsil Completes Move To LA Galaxy

Ghanaian winger Joseph Paintsil is set for a new adventure in the United States of America (USA) following his move to Major Soccer League side Los Angeles Galaxy.

The move of the winger from Belgian side Genk was confirmed in a statement by LA Galaxy on Wednesday.

“The LA Galaxy today announced that the club has acquired Joseph Paintsil from Belgian Pro League side K.R.C. Genk as a Designated Player and signed the forward to a four-year contract through the end of the 2027 MLS season. Paintsil, who will occupy an international roster slot, will be added to the Galaxy roster pending receipt of his International Transfer Certificate (ITC) and P-1 Visa.”

The 26-year-old who has netted 61 goals in 228 appearances in his entire club career signed a four-year contract extending through the end of 2027 with his new home.

Thrilled La Galaxy General Manager Will Kuntz recognized the Ghanaian’s key contribution to Genk and his home country and is confident he will help the club win their next trophies after their torrid spell last season.

“We are looking forward to adding such a dynamic attacker in the prime of his career to our group and for him to be a key figure in our pursuit of our next trophies,” he said.

Head Coach Greg Vanney said, “Joseph is a dynamic winger with and without the ball who possesses the cap…We are pleased to add a player of Joseph’s quality to the LA Galaxy.”

The Black Stars player this season netted six goals for Genk in 23 appearances. He started 21 times and provided four assists.

During the 2022-23 Belgian Pro League season, Paintsil was involved in 28 goals (14 goals, 14 assists) in 30 league appearances (28 starts), helping Genk qualify for the 2023-24 Europa Conference League.

Meanwhile, Paintsil has provided Ghana with two assists in 14 appearances in nine starts.

In a post on X, the player said, “A new adventure begins.”
