Jordan Ayew, Others Sidelined Ahead of Niger Qualifier
Four Black Stars players will be missing in action when Ghana face Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday in the last game of the last round of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Jordan Ayew, Gideon Mensah, Alidu Seidu and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku are said to have sustained injuries making them unavailable after the Angola draw in Luanda on November 15 which saw Ghana getting disqualified from the 2025 AFCON.
A statement issued by the Ghana Football Association over the weekend said, “Alidu Seidu and Gideon Mensah who had to pass a late fitness test for the Angola game, have been ruled out after further post-game medical assessment revealed findings that make them unfit for selection.”
Meanwhile, it said Jordan Ayew and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku sustained injuries during the Angola match.
“Although Ayew completed the game, MRI scans in Accra revealed significant issues with his knee. Issahaku was substituted in the first half due to his injury.”
Ayew and Issahaku rejoined their club on Sunday to begin rehabilitation following consultations between the Black Stars’ medical head, Dr Prince Pambo and Leicester City’s medical team.
The four have been replaced in the national team by Medeama SC right-back Kamaradini Mamudu, Heart of Lions defender Ebenezer Abban and Thought FC‘s Jerry Afriyie.
The trio trained with the Black Stars on Sunday ahead of the team’s clash on Monday against Niger.
Ghana was winless in the last five qualifying games, securing only three points.
