Israeli Embassy Officials to be Summoned Over Inhumane Treatment of Ghanaians in Israel

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is planning to summon officials of the Israeli Embassy in Accra over the ill treatment meted out to Ghanaian nationals travelling to Israel.

The Ministry intends to use the meeting to convey the country’s ‘displeasure in the strongest possible terms,’ it said in a statement issued on December 10, 2025.

It comes after the Ghanaian government observed the deliberate subjection of Ghanaian travellers to “inhumane and traumatic treatment” at the entry port of Ben Gurion International Airport.

It recounted how on December 7, 2025, seven Ghanaian travellers to Israel were detained at the Ben Gurion International Airport without justifiable cause.

“The detained included four (4) members of a Parliamentary delegation taking part in the ongoing Annual International Cybersecurity Conference in Tel Aviv.”

It reported that they were only released after more than five hours of strenuous diplomatic intervention.

Meanwhile, the remaining three were deported on the next available flight and have since arrived in Ghana.

Following enquiries, Israel cited an alleged non-cooperation of the Ghanaian Embassy regarding the deportation of Ghanaians in Israeli custody.

This justification, the Ministry found as “totally untenable, as the facts confirm that Ghana’s mission in Tel Aviv has been responsive and compliant with international law.”

“It is worth highlighting that Ghana and Israel have enjoyed cordial relations for more than six decades, with considerably high volumes of unimpeded travel by citizens of both nations. This condemnable conduct by Israeli authorities is extremely provocative, unacceptable and inconsistent with our friendly historical relations.”

The Ghanaian government further noted that it was considering appropriate reciprocal action.
