Injury Rules João Cancelo Out Of Barca Squad
An injury sustained by Portuguese footballer João Cancelo during Barcelona’s 2-1 comeback over Las Palmas away from home has created uncertainty about his availability to the Club in subsequent fixtures.
He sustained the injury in the 11th minute and went off the pitch.
Medical examination revealed the versatile defender had a strained medial collateral ligament in his left knee, a statement from the Blaugrana said.
“Test carried out on Friday shows that first team player João Cancelo has a strained medial collateral ligament in his left knee. He is unavailable for selection and his recovery will dictate his return.”
The Catalonia-based club said the situation has rendered him “unavailable for selection and his recovery will dictate his return”.
This means the club will go against Barbastro in the Copa del Rey on Sunday without him.
He joined Barça in the summer and has since featured 22 times, 16 in La Liga and six in the Champions League, scoring three goals and providing two assists.
