Importers to Receive Refund of Wrong Surcharge by Shipping Lines- GSA

The Ghana Shippers Authority (GSA) has announced that processes are underway for victims of the incorrect $1000 Emergency Conflict Surcharge to receive a refund.

In a statement, the CEO, Prof Ransford Gyampo, said an anomaly had been detected and duly corrected.

Shipping Lines are to undertake a refund.

Following an investigation into complaints of the said charges, Prof Gyampo took to Facebook to say there was a global announcement to all CMA-CGM shipping agencies to invoke the War Clause Surcharge in their list of charges.

“The shipping lines use a shared centre where invoices are generated globally. The shared centre automated the system to generate the currently disputed cost line.

“This anomaly is at the moment being corrected, and all who have been surcharged would receive a refund from the shipping line.”

The charges come amid geopolitical tensions in the Middle East.
