I’m Aware of The Reciprocal Responsibility This Confidence Imposes On Me- Quayson After Victory
James Gyakye Quayson, the newly elected Member of Parliament (MP) for the Assin North Constituency, has extended his heartfelt appreciation to the people of Assin North for their unwavering support and trust in him.
“I am deeply humbled by the confidence the people have expressed in what I stand for and what I have done. I am also fully aware of the reciprocal responsibilities that this massive show of confidence imposes on me,” he said.
In his appreciation message after his overwhelming victory in the by-election, he pledged to work hard to honour those responsibilities.
“My solemn pledge is to work as hard as I can for the people who have made tonight possible.”
He finds the results as the constituency’s desperate call ‘to stop politics and focus on solving their problems’ and described his victory as ‘justice’.
“The people of Assin North have spoken. They have said without equivocation that they want me to represent them in the 8th Parliament. They have told us to stop the politics and focus on solving their problems. This is a victory, not just for me and the NDC but also for justice.”
He added, “I sought this position because of my deep commitment to the Assin North Development agenda. I remain determined to mobilise resources from within and without to prosecute this agenda with all my energy no matter the cost.”
He further thanked his supporters, family, executives of his party and fellow MPs for their unflinching support.
Quayson stood to contest the by-election after he was ousted from office through a supreme court ruling that rendered his election in 2020 null and void saying he had not renounced his Canadian citizenship when he filed to be elected and subsequently got elected as an MP.
He was contested in the by-election by New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s Charles Opoku and the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG)’s Bernice Enyonam Sefenu.
Certified results after the June 27 By-election showed the NPP polled 11,389 (42%); LPG – 85 (0.28%) and NDC – 17,205 (57.4%).
