Illegal Mining: Enchi Court Reverses Controversial Excavator Order

The Enchi District court has reversed an initial ruling ordering the Forestry Commission to release two seized excavators and other mining equipment to some culprits in three days.

This was confirmed by the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah.

At a presser on April 3, the Minister said through the concerted efforts and voices of the citizenry and the Legal Department of the Forestry Commission, the court rescinded the earlier ruling and declared it void.

“This is a testament to the true power of the collaborative efforts we are calling for, in this fight.”

Background
Forestry Commission and the Enchi police arrested four suspects for allegedly mining illegally in the Boin River Forest Reserve on March 23, 2025.

Additionally, two excavators were reported to have been impounded by the officials.

In Court on March 28, 2025, the court presided over by Judge Lawrence Buenor Buer ordered the Forestry Commission to immediately release the excavators to the accused as he approved their bail.

He also charged the Commission to assist the culprits in carrying the machinery to wherever they deem suitable, provoking a public backlash.
