IGP Addresses Students Of Islamic SHS After Clash
The Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akufo Dampare has addressed students of the Islamic Senior High School following a clash with the police that left dozens of them hospitalised in various hospitals in Kumasi.
This comes after some of the students, on June 13, 2022 morning took to the streets to protest against the absence of a speed ramp in front of the main entrance of the school, the absence of which, results in frequent accidents with a recent one on Friday, June 10, 2022, involving their teacher, reports say.
During the protest, it is reported that the students blocked a section of the road causing gridlock and calling for the intervention of some security officers leading to the clash.
But after touring the crime scene and the various hospitals to check on the victims, the IGP returned to the school where he engaged the students.
In his address, he indicated that the hospitalised students were in better conditions.
He added that he has liaised with the stakeholders to resolve their grievances.
“As soon as I touched base and went round and saw the dangers that you are exposed {to}. I made a couple of calls and the Urban Roads and its leadership have accepted to quickly come around and ensure that the right thing is done to save your lives to live to your full potential. We are going to monitor it through accomplishment so that each life will be protected.”
The IGP also admonished the students to utilise the right communication channels to get their grievances addressed.
“Anytime you are confronted with challenges, you have the leadership at the student level and you have the leadership at the academic level. You have the leadership at the residency level and you have the leadership at the very top of the school level. Don’t bypass them to take the laws into your own hands to create a (such) situation. So that at the end of the day, we will be very circumspect in the things that happen. So that we don’t end up losing any life, we don’t end up creating any confusion that will take us away from our journey to become great people”.
