I Don’t Know How Long I’ll Keep Playing- Luka Modic after Italy Draw

Captain of the Croatian senior national team, Luka Modric says he would like to always represent his country and club on the field in jerseys; however, he knows a time looms when he will have to give it up.

He however is not sure how long he will keep at his profession, he told the press after their chance of qualifying for the Euros got slimmer with their 1-1 draw against Italy in the UEFA European Championship currently ongoing in Germany.

Modric squandered a penalty and later scored to put his side in the lead on Monday; however, a late goal by Italy held their fate in the balance.

His comment about his retirement came after an Italian journalist eulogized him at the presser and urged him to continue playing.

“I wanted to thank you for everything you’ve shown not only tonight but throughout your career. You signed off as a top-class player scoring despite missing a penalty. I’d like to ask you never to retire from your playing career because you are one of the finest players I have ever commentated on,” the journalist said.

In response, a grateful Modric who has made 178 appearances admitted to his uncertainty about the future.

“Thank you very much for this wonderful tribute. Right from the bottom of my heart, I thank you. I’d also like to keep playing forever but there probably come a time when I have to hang my boots. I’ll keep playing but I don’t know for how much longer.”

Many believe this is the last Euros for the 38-year-old and if so it will be on a bad note for him if Croatia fails to sail through the Round of 16 with their 2 points as part of the best third-placed teams.

Modric ended up being the Player of the Match on Monday.
