I Don’t Desire to be Given Accra or Ghana- Asantehene

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene, has emphasised that he holds no desire to extend his authority to Accra or Ghana as he is satisfied with his Kingdom.
During an engagement with the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs on January 30, 2026, His Majesty affirmed that he was content with his portion.
His focus remains fixed on preserving and developing what was bequeathed to him by his forefathers.
“I don’t want Accra or Ghana. I am content with what God apportioned to me, and that is what I make sure to preserve and sustain.”
Otumfuo said this while discounting misconceptions about an enmity between Asantes and Ga-Dangmes as a result of the 1826 Katamanso war during a courtesy visit by the Greater Accra House of Chiefs on January 30, 2026.
The delegation was led by the President, Oboade Notse Odaifio Welentsi III, who doubles as Nungua Mantse.
The visit was used to seek collaboration with the Asantehene to attract international investment, request Otumfuo’s inclusion in a proposed conflict adjudication committee for the Region, and extend an invitation to the 200th Anniversary of the Akatamanso War.
His Majesty readily accepted to assist the House in whatever way he can.
The delegation included Nene Tetteh Wakah III, the Vice President of the Greater Accra House of Chiefs; Nene Osroagbo Djangmah XII, Paramount Chief of Ningo Traditional Area; Gbetsoolor Nii Ashitey Akomfra III, Paramount Chief of Teshie; and Tatse Nii Laryea Akuetteh X, the Paramount Chief of Katamanso.
