How to be a Dangote
In a discussion at the recently ended 31st African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) Annual Meetings (AAM) in Bahamas, Nigerian Businessman Aliko Dangote gave some tips to his proteges on how to emulate and replicate his success in the business space.
Among what he put forth was the vision and means to actualization.
He stated, “You have to have the vision right from the beginning and also see how to actualise your vision.”
According to the 67-year-old, the business space is one that requires resilience, tenacity and focus to advance and grow and thereby a no-go area for persons with lean muscles.
“First of all, they have to understand what they are doing. In your own business, you cannot do everything by yourself so you have to be very very focused. You have to be tough. Being in business is not a child’s play.”
Dangote is the founder, chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of the Dangote Group, the largest industrial conglomerate in West Africa.
With an estimated net worth of $15.3 billion in May 2024, he is known as the richest person in Africa and the world’s 132nd richest person.
He is also known to be the world’s richest black person.
His wealth stems from his business group, which includes cement, sugar, flour, agriculture, and oil companies, and employs a staggering 11,000 people.
