House Helps Charged with Stealing Millions from Cecilia Dapaah’s Home
Two house helps, Patience Botwe and Sarah Agyei, are facing charges before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly stealing money and items worth millions of Ghana Cedis from Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources and her husband, Daniel Osei Kuffour.
They are accused of stealing the monies and personal effects of the couple between July and October 2022 at their residence in Abelemkpe, a suburb of Accra.
The charges include one count of conspiracy to commit a crime and five counts of stealing US$1 million, €300,000, and millions of Ghana cedis.
Additionally, Patience alone is accused of stealing six pieces of Kente cloth worth GH¢90,000 and six sets of men’s suits valued at US$3,000, which belong to the minister’s husband.
Others involved in the case include Benjamin, Kweku Botwe, and Malik Dauda, who have been charged with dishonestly receiving various amounts of money.
During the court proceedings, Sarah was granted bail due to being a breastfeeding mother, with a bail condition of GH¢1 million and two sureties. However, Patience, along with her alleged boyfriends and father, has been remanded into custody.
The court was informed that Patience and Sarah were both house helps for the complainants, and the alleged theft came to light after the couple reported the case to the police. Patience was caught entering the couple’s room with a duplicate key, and further investigation revealed stolen cash and properties. Patience and her boyfriend were arrested in Tamale, where they had rented an apartment and a store.
The case is adjourned to August 2, 2023.
