Help Reverse Regional Minister’s Transfer of Jacobu Imam; Chief Imam to Otumfuo
The Ashanti Regional Chief Imam, Sheik Abdul Mumin Haroun, has called for Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s intervention in the transfer of Khalifah Mahamudu Ibrahim Anyass by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon Simon Osei Mensah to New Edubiase in the Adansi South District.
Khalifah Mahamudu Ibrahim Anyass is not being transferred in his capacity as the Imam of Jacobu where he was born and bred but as a longstanding worker in the local government. The Imam indicated that, despite his religious duties, the law requires him to be transferred due to the number of years he has worked there.
Having dedicated 15 years of service to the Amansie Central District, his transfer to Adansi South District raises significant concerns within the religious community.
According to the Regional Chief Imam, he has proven to be proficient in his religious mandate, spearheading the religious growth of the capital of the Amansie Central.
He anticipates that his transfer will be a major blow to the Muslim community and derail gains he has so far made in Jacobu, and thereby the plea for His Majesty’s intervention.
The humble request was made to the King on Saturday, May 18, 2024, during the annual visit of sub-Metro, Municipal and District Imams of the Ashanti Region to the Manhyia Palace after pleas and proposed compromises were rejected.
“He (Mahamudu Ibrahim Anyass) is very competent and I would like to plead for your intervention. The Regional Minister has decided to transfer him. I request that even if everyone has to be transferred, he should be excluded.
“They are transferring him to New Edubiase. He (Mahamudu Ibrahim Anyass) has petitioned the authorities to transfer him to Bekwai- which is close to his home in Jacobu- so that he can go to work and return home afterwards but the Regional Minister has opposed it. Since he has proven to be competent, I have also decided to help him do more. His commendable leadership in Jacobu has witnessed an increase in the number of mosques from one to 19.”
