Heathrow Airport Closed Over Power Outage

A power outage has forced the Management of Heathrow Airport to close down the facility in the United Kingdom (UK).
A statement issued on Thursday night said a fire at an electrical substation supplying the airport had caused a power cut to the facility.
According to the Airport, the closure was on safety and security grounds.
“To maintain the safety of our passengers and colleagues, Heathrow will be closed until 23h59 on 21 March.”
Apologising for the inconvenience, it directed passengers to contact their airline for further information.
The development has negatively impacted the travelling public as flights have had to be diverted.
BBC reports that Amsterdam tops the list with seven flights diverted to its airport. That’s followed by Frankfurt, Washington, London Gatwick, Shannon and Paris with six flights diverted to each airport.
Additionally, it reports that New York’s JFK, Madrid, Manchester and Glasgow have each taken five diverted flights.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the counter-terrorism police are investigating the incident though it appears to be a fault.
