It’s Important We Mentor Our Young Girls- Lady Julia

Lady Julia Osei Tutu, the wife of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene has underscored the significance of mentorship for the younger generation, particularly for girls.
Speaking at the 2025 edition of her Masterclass Mentorship programme at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Her Royal Highness highlighted that women at the helm of affairs must be taking this responsibility.
She simply put it: “To every great woman, there is another great woman behind her. It’s very important that we mentor our young girls, that we hold their hands and bring them up with us as we are climbing the ladders.”
Thanking the speakers at the event held on March 7, 2025- a day before the International Women’s Day celebration- She encouraged the participating students from the selected schools across the Ashanti Region to embrace and build upon what they had learnt.
“Today has been very exciting for me and I’m glad that we’ve had this opportunity to gather and sit down and talk. I hope our young ladies will not end the conversation here. Please carry it back to your schools with you, have discussions and support yourselves. From what we learned today, I think that the only person preventing us from reaching our maximum potential is ourselves.”
Lady Julia further challenged the young ladies to put the needed effort into their studies for success as she counselled them against investing the majority of their time on social media.
“The only person who can prevent you from reaching your goals is you. So let’s be intentional about how we go about our lives and put the work in as Prof said, if we sit on TikTok half the day, and we don’t put the work in, don’t expect to get what somebody who learnt and puts all was that needed got.”
Additionally, she earnestly reminded them that their destinies are in their hands.
“If you do well and learn hard, success will be yours and there will be no stopping. Life as they say is like a blank canvas. It’s blank and nothing on it. It’s up to you and the decisions you make that will bring out a beautiful painting or an ugly one. So please as young ladies decide where you want to go. Cut out your career path and tell yourself this is what you want to do and put in the work and success will be yours.”
