Hearts of Oak Withdraws From EKO International Tournament

Hearts of Oak has taken a “difficult” decision to withdraw from the upcoming EKO International Tournament in Nigeria.
The decision is on the back of the change in date, it said in a statement issued on July 8, 2025.
Initially scheduled for July 6-13, the tournament was later rescheduled to July 13-20.
Hearts explained that the new date coincides with its carefully planned rest and recovery period for the players.
The period, it emphasized, is “crucial before we kick off our pre-season preparations”.
“After careful discussions between management and the technical team, we have taken the difficult decision to withdraw in order to protect the well-being of our squad.”
It therefore extended an unqualified apology to the organisers and fans who were looking forward to seeing the team in action.
It said the team will take an official break on Wednesday, July 9, and return later in the month to begin pre-season training ahead of a packed August calendar featuring:
* GHALCA Top 4 – August 15-19
* Homowo Cup vs. Heart of Lions – TBC
* Democracy Cup vs. Great Olympics – August 28
