GTEC Justifies Shut Down of Royal Nursing College

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has cited a number of violations accounting for its decision to close down the Royal Nursing College in February.

According to the Commission, the school had been operating without accreditation from GTEC and a licence from the N&MC from 2024 to date, despite several warnings from the two regulators.

“It was revealed that the college was still admitting students after GTEC revoked its accreditation in 2024 and asked them to cease fresh admission. The college was also operating without a license from the Nursing and Midwifery Council (N&MC) because the N&MC had withdrawn their license and asked them to stop operating in the same year due to regulatory irregularities and anomalies.”

It also revealed that some student nurses were sharing learning facilities with a Montessori basic school.

These, it noted, constituted offences under section 36 of the Education Regulatory Bodies Act 2020 (Act 1023).

While closing down the institution, GTEC directed the students to go home while they await further directives.

It also confirmed that the arrest of two management members who were present at the time of the visit to assist in further investigation and prosecution.
