GTEC Halts Directive For Bolgatanga Technical University VC to Proceed on Leave

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has intervened to halt a directive for the Vice Chancellor of Bolgatanga Technical University, Professor Samuel Erasmus Alnaa, to proceed on an accumulated leave.

A statement signed by Prof Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai said the directive by the Governing Council of the university is ‘unprecedented’, ‘potentially problematic’ and ‘unacceptable’.

According to him, it has the propensity to create unforeseen negative consequences.

“Professor Samuel E. Alnaa remains the substantive Vice Chancellor of the Bolgatanga Technical University and is deemed to be at post until he decides to take his annual leave.”

It also referenced the confirmation of Mr. Richard Abugre Atia, the Acting Registrar of the University, as the substantive Registrar effective January 1, 2026.

“GTEC is reliably informed that Mr. Richard Abugri Atia did not make the pass mark as set by the interview panel constituted to conduct interviews for that position…Mr. Richard Abugre Atia cannot assume office as Registrar until all the issues bordering on his appointment are resolved.”
