Gov’t To Settle Outstanding Bonds Within 48hrs
The government of Ghana has promised to pay outstanding bonds to bondholders within 48 hours.
This comes after some bondholders agitated over the government’s failure to honour payment of matured principals as promised by the Finance Ministry in late February this year.
The Individual Bondholders Forum on Monday issued a 48-hour ultimatum for payment.
In a statement dated March 14, the Ministry of Finance said it had already begun processes to make payment on outstanding debts.
The payment, it said, will be made within 48 hours.
This will cover coupon and principal payments on bonds that matured on February 6 and 13 this year.
It noted that payment dates for subsequent maturities will take place later.
“The Ministry of Finance take this opportunity to thank all stakeholders for their forbearance during the domestic Debt Exchange Programme and subsequent administrative processes”, it concluded.
