Govt Revokes Over 500 ‘Midnight’ Public Service Appointments and Promotions

The government has announced the revocation of the appointments and promotions of over 500 people in the Public Service after the December 7 elections in 2024.
They were among some 2,080 appointments and promotions by the Akufo-Addo administration that were reviewed by a committee at the instance of the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah.
Five hundred and forty-one of the total appointments and promotions have been permanently revoked as they failed to comply with due process, according to the Government Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
“The previous government was fully aware that basic requirements were not met in those cases and still went ahead to sanction them,” he said, adding that the exercise was carried out “without malice or ill-feeling towards anyone” and was “a necessary step to uphold the rule of law and ensure accountability.”
He further reported that 1,201 appointments were upheld as they were found to comply with due process, with the appointments of 338 persons with disabilities also upheld.
“There were some of our compatriots who suffered some disability. But we found that their recruitment should be revoked because it did not comply with the laid-down process. But because of their peculiar situation and the hardship that could be imposed upon them if we were to enforce this directive, they were given some clemency,” he said.
