Govt Announces Nationwide Keep-Fit Walk
The government has announced a nationwide sports initiative in a move to foster community engagement, promote healthy lifestyles, and strengthen national unity.
The government intends to partner with Millennium Marathon to execute a historic simultaneous 5-kilometre and 10-kilometre walk across all 16 regions of Ghana, the Ministry of Sports and Recreation announced on November 11, 2025.
The yet-to-be-scheduled event, which will be joined by President John Dramani Mahama, will be launched on Friday, November 14, 2025.
It is intended to bring together Ghanaians of all ages and backgrounds in a collective celebration of fitness, camaraderie, and patriotism.
At a stakeholder meeting, Mrs Wilhelmina Asamoah, Chief Director of the Ministry, highlighted the significance of the event, noting that it provides an excellent platform for Ghanaians to adopt healthier lifestyles, socialise, and build networks while being entertained.
She emphasised that the event has the potential to unify forces ahead of Ghana’s 5th appearance at the FIFA World Cup, fostering a shared sense of pride and national spirit.
Expressing gratitude to KGL, one of the event’s title sponsors, Mrs Asamoah announced that additional sponsorship support has been secured from MTN and Trillium Ghana, underscoring the event’s broad corporate backing.
She called on other corporate entities to join in supporting this historic initiative, urging Ghanaian businesses to partner with the Ministry to make the event a resounding success.
The Millennium Marathon, as a partners, was established in 2015 and is Accra’s premier international half-marathon recognised by World Athletics. Over the past decade, it has become a symbol of Ghanaian hospitality and resilience, uniting athletes from Ghana and around the world in a race that celebrates the country’s rich culture and sporting spirit.
This nationwide initiative marks a significant step in realising the President’s vision of engaging the Ghanaian community through sports, fostering unity, and showcasing Ghana’s vibrant spirit on the international stage.
