GIS Boss Sues Johnnie Hughes, Media General, TV3; Demands 20M In Damages
The Comptroller General of the Ghana Immigration (GIS) service, Kwame Asuah Takyi has filed a defamation suit against media organisation Media General, TV3 Network Limited and Johnnie Hughes, host of the TV3 morning show.
Per the writ of summons, the plaintiff says Johnnie used the media network’s platform between August 24 and September 23 to make statements that suggest that he is corrupt; uses his offices wrongly against others; uses his office to enrich himself; and has a questionable character which makes him unfit for the position he occupies.
The plaintiff says the statements disparage him and have caused him serious embarrassment and distress.
He, therefore, wants the court to among other things, cause the defendants to pay GHc20 million in damages; retract the statements and obliterate the publications; render an apology using the same medium; and restrain the defendants and their agents from further making such statements.
