Girls are Impressive in Science- Asantehene
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has acknowledged the impressive performance of Ghanaian girls in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) courses in the various second cycle institutions.
Many Girls’ schools have met with the King to present their inventions and update him about their stellar achievements at national and global levels.
The Asantehene expressed his gratification with the trend during a courtesy call by the Management, Board and some students of the Kumasi Girls’ Senior High School (SHS) on Wednesday, August 28, 2024.
The delegation had gone to introduce their new head teacher to the King when he picked the subject of science and its relevance to the development of countries in the current dispensation.
He indicated that science and technology has become the order of the day and expressed his joy at seeing many high schools especially female schools hopping onto the trend.
From his observation, he judged that girls are doing way better than the males who were in the past married to the course.
He, therefore, urged the school to make it a priority and catch up with the race.
“In the past there was a perception that science was a course for boys but now I realise the women are doing academically well in science compared to boys. Strive to walk in that path.”
He also encouraged the leadership to take keen interest about the welfare of the students.
Among the delegation were Board Chairman, Nana Fobi Kopa III, the new headmistress, Mrs Adellaide Biyaa Powers, Gloria Ohene Owusu, the Accountant, Rebecca Tetteh, the Assistant Headmistress in charge of Administration, Mabel Oppong, the Assistant Headmistress in charge of Academics, Gifty Mensah Bonsu, the Assistant Headmistress in charge of Domestic, some teachers and students.
