Giant Tema Motorway Billboard Holder Raises Safety Concerns
A giant billboard holder, standing somewhere along the Tema motorway, is bound for doom as some parts of it are under attack.
A video shared online showed some bolts holding the pillar in place, all gone to the dismay of the whistleblower.
At least four bolts could be counted out, with some others in the process of being removed. It appears the culprit undertakes his venture gradually and cautiously.
Though the pillar currently holds no billboard, the removal of the bolts creates much concern for public safety during a flood or gale.
A commentary by the one who took the video is a wake-up call to the needed authorities. The Ghanaian expat who appears to have visited the country characterized it as “unbelievable” as he expressed his utmost surprise.
“This is a billboard, Chale, look at the size. It is on the Tema Motorway. The bolts holding it have all been taken out or in the course of being taken out. Eventually, this thing standing will have no bolts and with one big wind, that is it. Chale, look at it, it’s almost all gone…How can people behave that way, look at that…This is unbelievable.”
According to him, the whole structure has begun showing signs of coming down as it shakes at the blow of the wind.
This is not the only structure under siege. Over the past years, attention has been drawn to the theft of parts of several structures in the country, including rail line components.
In May 2023, the Ministry of Roads and Highways confirmed that rail tracks and steel sleepers in the Eastern, Western, and Central lines, and many other lines across the country, had been stolen by thieves and saboteurs.
