Ghana’s FDA Boss Elected African Medicines Agency Director-General

The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana’s Food and Drugs Authority, Delese Mimi Darko has been elected as the first Director-General of the African Medicines Agency based in Rwanda.
She was elected at the ongoing 2nd Ordinary Session of the Conference of State Parties in Kigali on June 4, 2025.
In a competitive process that saw 149 applications when nominations opened in January 2025, Dr. Darko emerged as the best candidate.
She will relocate to Rwanda to head this vital organization, the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
“I congratulate Dr. Mimi Darko and Team Ghana for the incredibly successful campaign. President Mahama deserves full plaudits for his amazing support and leadership.
“We wish the new Ghanaian Director-General an impactful tenure as she relocates to Rwanda to head this vital organization,” he wrote on Facebook.
