Ghana Would Have Felt Mills’ Impact Had He Completed His Term- Otumfuo

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II is of the firm conviction that the governance of the late Professor Evan Atta Mills would have had the desired impact on Ghana had he completed his tenure in office as all past Ghanaian heads of state had.

He said his resistance to the modus operandi in political leadership would have borne better fruits in Ghana had he lived longer.

One of such resistance can be linked to a disagreement Otumfuo recounted Mills had with the late founder of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jerry John Rawlings.

“There was a disagreement between him {Mills} and Rawlings as a result of {political} appointments and he {Mills} called me for my intervention,” Otumfuo recalled.

“Had he finished his term, we would have felt the impact of his rule. He couldn’t complete his term so we couldn’t realise his essence. This is because he resisted a lot of pressure against a lot of things,” his Majesty believes.

Otumfuo, therefore, commended the Board of the John Evans Atta (JEA) Mills Memorial Heritage for deciding to mortalise the former President’s legacy.

“I thank you. What excites me is that it is not partisan.”

Prof Mills died on July 24, 2012, while serving his first term in office.

He is remembered as the embodiment of peace.
