Ghana Is Hopeless- Minority
The Minority Leader in Parliament, Hon Cassiel Atto Forson has decried the President’s seeming unconcern over the current unemployment rate, concluding the country is now a hopeless nation.
His statement follows President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s State of the Nation Address (SONA), which failed to feature measures to reduce the growing unemployment rate in the country.
He juxtaposed his statement on the recent data released by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), which revealed more than 1.8 million Ghanaians are unemployed.
“The unemployment situation is at a critical point yet we did not hear a word about it from the President,” he stated adding that of the 33 million population, only 11.3million are employed.
“What this means is that two out of every three Ghanaians is unemployed.” He emphasised that more than 4.5 million Ghanaians are outside the labour force with 30% of the youth walking around without jobs.
He ruled, “The state of our nations is hopeless. Even professionals are leaving the shores.”
Additionally, the MP for the Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam constituency criticized the President for adding up to the size of his already-large size government in his latest reshuffle.
“In the recent reshuffle, the President has increased the size of the government. Today we have Minister for Finance domestic and Minister for Finance international.”
President Akufo-Addo presented the SONA on February 27, 2024.
