Ghana Gets First Professional Golfers
Ghana has gotten its first-ever professional golfers, according to the Chairman of the Royal Golf Club, Kumasi, Mr Kwasi Atta Antwi.
Mr Atta Antwi introduced the two to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, a staunch golfer and the Life Patron of the Club on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, during the last Awukudae of the year 2023.
Constance Awuni and Felicity Okyei-Gyeabour, the new professionals are also members of the Royal Golf Club of Kumasi.
“Kumasi Royal Golf Club has two professionals and they are all women. They are Ghana’s first professional golfers. They are in Kumasi,” Mr Atta Antwi said proudly as the two women stepped forward.
In June, Constance Awuni won the Vodafone Asantehene Gold Golf Cup a record seven times.
She has been winning the competition back-to-back since 2015 with the exception of the 2020 edition.
Congratulating her on the night of the awards earlier this year, Otumfuo urged her to join the professional rank.
“Let me say thank you to the lady Constance Awuni who has won this competition seven times. This time through the management of the Golf Club I will give her some money as an award. I advise that she joins the professional rank and win more awards for us. Is she ready to be a professional? I wish she will, then we will sponsor her to become our first lady professional from Kumasi”.
In 2019, Mrs Ogyeabour defended her GCB Golf Competitions League trophy in the ladies category.
