Ghana Expresses Solidarity With Qatar, Condemns Israeli Attack

Ghana has taken a stance after the Israeli “unprovoked” attack on Qatar on Tuesday afternoon.

A message by President John Dramani Mahama issued through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on September 10 condemned the attack as a “clear” breach of international law.

He observes that the attack undermines the ongoing pursuit of peace between the States of Palestine and Israel.

“The Government of the Republic of Ghana condemns the attack in view of the fact that the airstrikes constitute a clear violation of international law and an affront to the sovereignty of the State of Qatar.”

“His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama and the People of Ghana stand in solidarity with the Emir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the People of Outar in these difficult times.”

He also commended Qatar for its tireless and impressive commitment towards the resolution of the conflict between the States of Israel and Palestine.

Meanwhile, it urged Qatar not to allow the attack to derail its effort in negotiating a peaceful diplomatic resolution of the conflict.

According to the Palestinian armed group Hamas, their negotiating team were discussing the latest US proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip at a residential compound in Doha when the said location was bombarded with missiles by Israel.

It confirmed that five of its members were killed in an Israeli air strike in Qatar’s capital, but claimed that an attempt to assassinate its negotiating team “failed”, BBC reports.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the strike was “fully justified” because it targeted senior Hamas leaders who organised the 7 October 2023 attack on Israel, which triggered the Gaza war.
