GFA Boss Steps Down as WAFU Zone B President

The President of the Ghana Football Association, Simone Kurt Okraku, has stepped down as the President of the WAFU ZONE B, the West African soccer governing body.

It comes after he assumed the role of 2nd Vice-President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), he said in a statement issued on April 29.

According to him, the decision has become imperative due to the workload currently before him.

“After being given the honour to serve as your President (of WAFU Zone B) over the last couple of years, it has become necessary that I step down from this role.”

He explained, “Due to my recent assumption of the role of 2nd Vice-President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), coupled with my continuing commitments to my home federation, the Ghana Football Association, it has become clear to me that I would be unable to give my best to all three roles due to the huge workload that these roles place upon me.”

The processes to hand over to a successor will be triggered in the next few days, he said.

“In the next few days, I will commence the process of handing over my role as WAFU Zone B President to a new leader.”

He is certain that his successor will continue the work he started including maintaining the peace being experienced in the Zone while continuing to work to build unity within the region.

He used the occasion to express appreciation to the staff.

“Thank you for the awesome experience of leading the Zone, and I wish us all well in our future endeavours!”

President Simeon-Okraku took over from Djibrilla Hima Hamidou of Niger who stood down from the position in May 2021.

In 2022, he was re-elected.
