GES “Distraught” By Drowning Of Students In Volta
The Ghana Education Service (GES) has expressed sadness at the death of eight students who drowned in the Volta Lake on their way to school on Tuesday.
According to the Service, it is distraught by the tragedy.
20 students were on a boat travelling from Atikagome to Wayokope to school when the boat capsized on January 24.
12 of them succeeded at diving to a safe place, however, eight drowned and died.
In a press statement, the GES said it commiserates with the families of the eight students and assured them of necessary support.
“We express our deepest condolences to the bereaved families.”
It announced that the Director-General of the Service has charged the Regional and District Directors of Education to visit the bereaved families.
Meanwhile it said efforts are underway to provide counselling services to the school.
