Gender Ministry Offers Emergency Financial Support to Vulnerable Households In Obogu

The Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has provided emergency cash support to vulnerable households in Obogu, Ashanti Region, as part of ongoing efforts to expand LEAP coverage and respond swiftly to urgent vulnerability situations.

This intervention follows the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection – Hon. Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey’s – visit to the community, where significant vulnerabilities among some households were identified.

Acting on issues identified during that engagement, the Ministry, through LEAP Management Secretariat and the Social Protection Directorate, collaborated with the Asante Akim Municipal Assembly to validate household data using the Ghana Household Registry.

The joint validation exercise identified 134 households as poor, with vulnerabilities including persons with disabilities, Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC), and aged persons without support.

Through the LEAP programme, emergency cash support was disbursed in line with LEAP standards to affected households on Thursday, February 26, 2026.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Maame Sarfoah Appiah, represented the Minister, Hon. Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, to ensure a smooth and transparent disbursement process.

The Head of the LEAP Management Secretariat and officials from the Ministry were also present to monitor the exercise and ensure compliance with established procedures.

The support is expected to cushion beneficiary households against immediate hardship while strengthening their resilience through sustained social protection interventions.
