The Council of Zongo Chiefs has announced that the annual Traditional Procession, Gangara, will be held on April 22, 2023 in Kumasi. The procession will begin from Manhyia Roundabout at 2:00pm to Roman Hill and ends at 6:00pm.

In a statement signed by Naaba Musah Akambonga, President of the Council of Zongo Chiefs, the council assured the Zongo Community of its safety.

“The Council wishes to assure the Zongo Community that measures would be put in place to create a peaceful environment required for various tribes to display their rich culture,” the statement said.

According to the statement, the thirty three tribal heads and sub heads in the Ashanti region are tasked to mobilize its followers and members to ensure a successful and peaceful procession.

“It is the expectation of the council that all participants will be law abiding during the festive occasion and also show up in decent dresses worthy of the Islamic faith,” the statement added.

The general public should also disregard any claim that certain groups or individuals have been banned from participating in the event.

The Gangara festival is a social activity observed by Muslims to signify the end of the 30-day fasting.

Members of the Zongo Community usually move in processions through the streets amid drumming and dancing, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the various tribes.
