“Galamsey Economy” To Premiere At AICC As Scheduled

The new documentary by Tiger P.I. will be premiered at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) as scheduled after a brief change in plans.

This means that the much-anticipated “Galamsey Economy” documentary will be shown on Monday and Tuesday at the AICC.

Two days before the premiering date, the Management of the venue informed the investigative firm that the place would not be available to them for their show despite Tiger Eye’s fulfilment of all requirements.

“Management of AICC informed Tiger Eye through our agent on Saturday, 12 November 2022, that the venue is no longer available for use on the said dates.

“Tiger Eye has already fulfilled every requirement of AICC to use the place including payment for the venue despite last minute change in cost by about per cent (30%)”, a statement dated November 13 from Tiger Eye said.

A section of Ghanaians attributed the action by the Management for the AICC to partisan politics.

Posting a copy of the release, investigative journalist Manasseh Awuni Azure said, “It’s a shame how these people behave. They have no regard for the glaringly ugly optics. Anyway, they can frustrate but not stop it.”

Another posted “They want to prevent Anas’s galamsey economy. But 3nfa!”

Hours later, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted a rejoinder restoring the right to Tiger Eye to use the venue.

It said, “The initial confusion was due to a scheduling conflict at the level of the AICC staff and not in any way a political decision as is being speculated.

“The matter has been resolved. We have made contact with the organisers and the event is expected to come off as scheduled”.

A later statement from Tiger Eye in reaction to this said it has agreed to go ahead with the premiere at the AICC and noted it appreciated the intervention by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey.

It added, “We, however, wish to point out that while the Minster was busy intervening, her deputy, Kwaku Ampratwum Sarpong and some workers at the Flagstaff House were busy engaging in needless propaganda”.

Trailer
On November 10, Investigative Journalist with Tiger Eye, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, created suspense with a trailer for “Galamsey Economy” featuring some officials of the Northern Development Authority (NDA) and the Jubilee House, the seat of Ghana’s Presidency.

The one-minute thirty-seven seconds video clip shows a few scenes of the documentary, however, gives hints about the powers behind the menace.

Lucky Dube’s “Rasta Man’s Prayer” music accompanies video and picture slides of the hints.

It begins with Anas’ journey back from overseas to Ghana, his ride along a road, videos of active galamsey at a site, a picture of the Jubilee House, a logo of the Northern Development Authority (NDA), a picture of the Chief Executive Officer of the NDA-Sumaila Abdul Rahma-, and a picture of President Akufo-Addo and the Coordinator for NDA at the Office of the President- Napaga Tia Sulemana.

It also showed a Joy News report of the Minister for Lands summoning five Regional Ministers over the menace as well as an interview with Most Reverend Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle, Metropolitan Archbishop of Cape Coast.

The trailer also features inscriptions such as “It Is An Eyesore”, “The Dark Secrets” and “Not Everything You See Will Happen”.
