GAF Recruitment Resumes Today after Fatal Stampede

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) will resume the recruitment exercise today in the Greater Accra Region after a fatal stampede forced the government to suspend the process last week.
This time around, the screening exercise will take place at eight designated sub-centres at five locations to ensure a seamless process.
These include El-Wak Stadium, Nicholson Park at Burma Camp, Air Force Base at Burma Camp, Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) and Eastern Naval Command at Tema.
The exercise will take place under the leadership of Commodore FA Nyarko, Colonel F Kusi-Darko and Colonel GB Eduah as Director General Human Resource, Director Manpower, and Director Information Technology, respectively.
It disclosed that all qualified applicants in batches of 600 persons will each receive an SMS specifying their reporting dates, batches and designated centres.
In a statement on Monday, the GAF said, “They are also encouraged to check on the recruitment portal for updates. Applicants are strongly advised to strictly adhere to these instructions.”
It directed any qualified applicant who does not receive a text message by November 20, 2025, to call the helpline on Mobile Number 0256405104 or WhatsApp on 0256405154 for assistance.
Meanwhile, it said applicants can also verify from the recruitment portal.
“Families and friends are cautioned not to accompany potential recruits to the screening centres to reduce congestion. Non-applicants will not be allowed entry to any of the centres,” it emphasised.
Stampede
Preliminary investigations indicate that the stampede was triggered by an unexpected surge of applicants who breached security protocols and rushed into the gates ahead of the scheduled screening at the El Wak Stadium on November 12.
This sudden movement led to chaos and multiple casualties, including six deaths.
