First Batch Of Stranded Ghanaians In Sudan Arrive

The first batch of Ghanaians in Sudan has arrived in their home country after crossing borders for safety.

The group of 74 persons arrived at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on Tuesday and were received by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong alongside other officials.

In a statement on May 30, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said 76 Ghanaians had successfully crossed to Ethiopia with the assistance of Ghanaian officials in the country.

It, however, said that 74 of them were scheduled to travel home.

Currently, there are two Ghanaian evacuees in Ethiopia and six others including two footballers and four engineers, moved from Sudan to Egypt.

Commending stakeholders for making the evacuation possible, the Ministry urged stranded citizens in Sudan to contact Ghanaian officials in Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan for assistance.

Conflict erupted on March 15 between Sudan’s de facto Armed Forces and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) over the road map for transition from military rule to civilian rule.
