Firefighters Report Zero Casualties In Kasoa New Market Fire

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has reported zero casualties after containing a fire that broke out at the Kasoa New Market for the second time in two years on Sunday.

This followed hours of intense firefighting.

According to the Service, personnel from Kasoa station met the fire at an advanced stage and received reinforcement from Weija, Anyaa, Dansoman, Industrial Area, Flagstaff House, Madina, and Swedru Fire Stations.

It reported that the fire was confined around 6:52 pm, brought under control at 7:52 pm, and completely extinguished at 10 pm.

The blaze destroyed several metallic shops, wooden stalls and their contents, mainly food items, including maize, beans, shea butter, spices, and other merchandise.

It also noted that the swift and professional response of GNFS personnel led to the salvaging of thousands of metal containers, shops, and stalls along with their contents.

As a proactive measure, fire tenders from Kasoa and Swedru remain on standby to prevent any possible re-ignition, while investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.

The GNFS also reported poor accessibility within the market, long distances to water sources, and heckling of firefighters as challenges to the firefighting effort.
