Fire Service To Patrol Markets Daily

As part of measures to reduce fire incidents in markets across the country, the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) says it has put in place some measures including daily patrol in markets.

The Chief Fire Officer, Julius A. Kuunuor has directed personnel and fire appliances to be deployed at various markets across the country from 6 am to 6 pm.

These personnel will provide daily round-the-clock fire cover.

Additionally, he has constituted a task force for daily patrol of markets to ensure swift action in case of any fire outbreaks and to provide constant vigilance.

The GNFS is also set to establish fire units/posts in key markets across the country to intensify fire safety education, conduct inspections, and ensure compliance with fire safety protocols.

Officers who will be stationed in the markets will be tasked with the submission of daily Situation Reports (SITREPS) to the National Headquarters Operations (NHQ OPS INFO) and work closely with market authorities, the Ghana Police Service and National Security.

In a statement, the Service said the measures will mitigate the risk of fire incidents in the various markets.

“These measures take immediate effect, and it underscores the GNFS’s dedication to ensuring the safety and security of markets, which are vital to the country’s economy and daily life,” it added, urging all stakeholders, including market authorities, traders, and the general public, to cooperate.

It comes after a series of fire outbreaks in markets across the country.
